Triathlon really is a wonderful sport! The exhilaration of combining the 3 disciplines of Swimming, Cycling and Running in one race sets it apart from other sports and really tests the strength of an athlete.

Lets look again at the standard distances involved in Triathlon.

Super Sprint – 200m swim / 10k Bike / 2.5k Run

Sprint – 400m swim / 20k Bike / 5k Run

Olympic – 1500m swim/40k Bike/ 10k Run

Half Distance / 70.3 Ironman  – 1900m Swim / 90k Bike / 21.1k Run

Full Distance –  Ironman – 3800m swim / 180k Bike / 42.2k Run

Each event is a massive challenge in itself and demand very different training methods! A 7 times Ironman athlete recently said to me that she cant do Sprint Distance races because they are just too demanding! What she means to the un initiated Triathlete is the fact that the moment you hit the water the heartbeat will be close to maximum heart rate until the finish! For someone starting out though – WHAT BETTER PLACE TO START… it doesn’t have to be quick? It can be a great challenge just to finish.
